Installation Notes:

A completely open-source game.

This games requires:

  • Ruby
  • libzlib-ruby (Zlib for Ruby)
  • libyaml-ruby (YAML for Ruby)
  • Rubygems
  • RubyGame (gem install rubygame)

First, uncompress and extract the files in the zip file. Go to the folder/directory containing the source, and double-click the trip_trap.rb file. If ruby is installed correctly, the game should pop-up.

In case it doesn't, then using the terminal (command prompt), type in...

Unix:

ruby [the directory location]/trip_trap.rb

Windows:

ruby [the folder location]\trip_trap.rb

Note the game is a play-once setup. Once you win or lose, you have to re-run the game again to play.

Brief Play Description:

As the player, you must guide a poor white block being stung by bees. To kill the bees, trick them to run into the blue thorns.

It's Done!

I laughed, I cried, and finally, completed a one-man game.

I'd like to thank all of you who've supported me throughout, and especially the play-testers who've complimented the intriguing (though, still broken) gameplay.

To those who'd like to try this game, first, be warned that the dependencies required to play the game is rather difficult to install. Rubygems wasn't happy without my Windows XP installation, and refused to install anything (including Rubygame).

Assuming you do get it running, I suggest starting with the "Too Many Bees" level. It's one of the hardest levels, but it also the most effective in delivering the objective of the game. And it's quite fun!
