Great Potential

Still some bugs and the controls could use some polish but overall I think this game has great potential! The tech base and game mechanics and environment systems are all wrapped neatly together in a game that is more awesome than what comes across in a single simple playthrough. Looking forward to seeing this reach its full vision!

Fails to run.

Unfortunately, the release fails to run as it is trying to load a local file. Here is the exception I get:

SecurityError: Error #2148: SWF file file:///C|/z/tmp/bent%5Fsubmission/release/bent.swf cannot access local resource file:///C|/z/tmp/bent%5Fsubmission/release/data_assets/bent_levels.xml. Only local-with-filesystem and trusted local SWF files may access local resources.

I'd really like to play around with this a bit. Maybe you could fix this by copy/pasting the XML inside the code rather than trying to load it externally? Unfortunately, I don't have the right version of Adobe Flash to allow me to try that out myself.

Bah... Stupid code. I hate to

Bah... Stupid code.

I hate to link offsite, but we're hosting it, and continuing to update it, at: www.stevematney.com/ggj/Bent.html

Also - updated versions

This link will also be housing updated versions of the game as we add more levels and tweak things.

If you're looking to judge ONLY the GGJ (48 hour) version, download the zip, and follow these steps.

Extract the zip somewhere - the easiest place is your desktop.

Open your preferred browser and go to this link: http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/sett...

This is your Flash Global Security Settings manager. Inside the panel, there is a dropdown that says "Edit locations..." Open the dropdown and choose "Add location..."

This gives you the option to choose a file or a folder. Select "Browse for folder" and, inside the panel, navigate to the place where you extracted bent_submission.zip and select the "bent_submission" folder from that location.

Now, go into the bent_submission folder in your file explorer, and under bent_submission/release/ open the Bent.html file in any browser.

Let me know if that makes sense.

Thanks!

-Steve.

I would like to say that I'm proud of what the 5 of us did in only 48 hours. Rain check on that celebratory beer my friends!
