Players are tasked with helping the Girl reach safety, carrying the world's last hope for deliverance from eternal sadness. By controlling the Girl, the player has to avoid obstacles, but has no influence on the world. At any moment, the player can switch perspective and become the Boy, who awaits the Girl at the end of her road. By thinking about the Girl very hard, the Boy can see her and influence the world around her, by tackling her enemies and helping her out when she slows down. He can not, however, control her directly.
World's only hope is now in the tiny hands of the Girl, and she hasn't got a lot of time to get it, and herself, to safety. Will she find the strenght to reach the goal? And will the Boy be able to clear the way for her?
