O jogo ocorre exatamente no ano de 2781, onde os seres humanos buscam um novo planeta habitável, pois os mesmos esgotaram os recursos naturais existente no planeta terra. Assim, a solução é migrar-se para outro planeta onde seus recursos ainda estão intocáveis, podendo então manter a existência da espécie humana. Ao fim desta busca foi encontrado o planeta Kepler 22-b, que possui condições hostis para sobrevivência humana. De modo a conhecer mais sobre este planta, foi enviada uma nave com 10 tripulantes que irão explorar o planeta, mas algo saiu errado levando ao piloto a fazer uma manobra arriscada, a mesma custou a vida de 9 tripulantes. O único sobrevivente foi Samuel Godah o piloto da nave que nunca participou de treinamento de sobrevivência, por sorte seu rádio de comunicação com a terra não foi danificado, que ao comunicar-se com seus superiores foi orientado a aguardar 200 dias até a construção de outra nave, até lá ele deverá sobreviver neste planeta pouco conhecido.
