My game is ITCHY! The adventures of a bug fleeing the very creature it is walking on. The idea emerged from the "problematic togetherness" in the extreme asymmetry of a parasite-host relationship. The purpose of this work is creating interesting and unique gameplay with a simple structure. So I mostly focused on the core components and parameters that define the gameplay. The maps are automatically generated from Voronoi diagrams because they resemble a reptile skin, and they give us an irregular cellular structure that allows complex strategy to emerge from a simple conflict. I also recorded and created beast sounds. The audio is critical in the gameplay, because the bug avoids the host by hearing its groanings.

* The map of the beast's skin is generated automatically each time as a Voronoi Diagram of uniform random center points. We used Delaunay Triangulation code by Sjaak Priester, which can be found at: http://www.codeguru.com/cpp/cpp/algorithms/general/article.php/c8901

* SDL, SDL_image, SDL_gfx, SDL_ttf and SDL_mixer libraries were used with C++ in MSVC 2003

* The sounds were recorded in the stairway of ATOM building with an M-Audio Microtrack II.

* The beast's groanings and moanings in fact belonged to Ugur, before they were pitch-shifted down a few octaves.

* Version 1.01 is released with some bug fixes

Installation Notes:

Just copy the folder and run Itchy.exe

Brief Play Description:

In the game, we find ourselves a bug trying to survive on the skin of a reptile-like giant (relative to the bug of course). The problem is, the bug needs to run and eat the foods on the skin, but this makes the beast itchy, and he scratches the itchy places on his skin. We, the bug, cannot see his entire body, but we try to predict and escape his scratches by interpreting the noises he makes. The skin is clustered into irregular cells and regenerated every time, so we cannot memorize the map.
