NJIT
Rutgers
Rowan
Mercer CC
as well as members of the professional community. It's going to be a great mix!
Friday's Itinerary
Hard to tell how this will shift with the expectation of yet more snow, but as of 10:00 am Thursday, this is the plan:
Arrive and collect information packet:
4:00-5:00
5:00-7:00 - Keynotes and Mixer, getting to know each other
7:00-9:00 - Revelation of the Theme, Game Pitches, Team Formation
9:00- - Protoyping, Jamming, Coffee consumption
Notes on Saturday
Please remember that we are in a classroom building and that we be sharing the building with regularly meeting classes. During this time we will need to keep our impact on other classrooms to a minimum. Please be aware of your noise level and the perceptions of those around you.
Parking at RVCC
Luckily we are on campus when most other people are not. Please proceed to Parking Lot #2. you can park in front of the West Building, or you may use the faculty lot to the side of the west building. I have been told they will leave the gate up so we will have access to the lot.
For the users of Nicotine
Just a reminder - RVCC is a smoke free campus. You are allowed to smoke in the parking lot more than 50 ft from the building, sidewalks, grass (weedy/snowy) areas.
Registration information
We are going to open up on-site registration/badge pick up at 4pm. You will be given a lanyard and name tag as well as a wristband. Please keep your lanyard on you at all ties. This will help everyone get to know one another more easily.
You will also receive a registration packet with details about
* how to find the restrooms
* map of the west building jam areas
* schedule of jam related events (1st playable, media moment, final upload, etc)
* maps to local food stores
* Description of creative commons license used by GGJ
Technical details
RVCC has a very closed network. Personal laptops will not have wireless access. Please come with some form of portable drive (USB stick, myBook, etc.) that you can use for transferring files.
We have two classrooms reserved with 40+ workstations. Ony the workstations in Room 205 have GameMakerPro 8 on them. All workstations have Adobe Creative Suite 5.
Our MIS department will be supplying Guest passwords. They are automatically generated for each calendar day. All guests will be using the same login account to get access to RVCC workstations.
Feel free to bring your own audio workstation equipment. We will have some low grade microphones available. I will bring my 25 key midi controller. But if you are an audio person with a laptop DAW at our disposal, bring it on in.
Nom Noms
The RVCC game development club will be providing drinks and snacks for the duration of the jam in Room 220.
There will be a buffet lunch mid-day on Saturday for all registered attendees. We found that the lack of 'real food' was detrimental to rational thought as we approached the 39th hour last year. We wanted to head that off with at least one nutritious meal.
There are several restaurants within close driving distance. Starbucks and Dunkin Donut's are close by for morning caffeine junkies. There is a SubWay, Wendy's, Moe's Mexican Grill and a ShopRite directly across from the campus. Just up the street there are several options: Pizza, Chinese, Sushi, bagels.
If things get dire, there are vending machines on campus. The machines in the West building are on the third floor, next to the entrance to room 311.
Overnight Accommodations
We have some of the most comfortable floors in the entire region. Feel free to pack an air bed or a sleeping bag. Starting at 2am, one of the available rooms will be turned in to 'dim lights/quiet space.'
Bring some warm clothes because the heating is controlled centrally on campus, and there doesn't seem to be a way to adjust the temperature for one weekend. Things got a little chilly early on Sunday morning last year.
In the event of bad weather
Once the jam starts we will be committed to staying through to the end of the jam unless forced off site by security.
